Abandoned grain elevator May 2, 2017

This is at Sharples, Alberta which is a short distance east from Carbon, Alberta. The elevator was really the only thing at Sharples. There used to be a rail line through here. It was torn up years ago.

A quick peek inside. I did not venture too far in. No telling how safe this might be.

Interior wall. These were built to last.

  1. It's such a neat place, I will never forget the first time I went there, coming around the bend and seeing that prairie skyscraper standing there.

  2. Any idea what P&H stands for.

That interior shot with the light streaming through the cracks is the bomb. The wood seems to be sound, probably safe to go in further (last words heard by prairie photographer before mysterious disappearance).

  3. That wood looks fabulous. Part of me wonders if it could be reclaimed, but then it would mean the building would be gone.

    1. Taking stuff from sites is not a good idea.

  5. P&H is Parrish and Heimbecker, a smaller grain elevator company. They own a number of concrete elevators across the Prairies.

    Beautiful elevator!
