Church on Monday

I have posted this church before, it is on a backroad near Bridesville, British Columbia. My cousin Linda and I stopped here on our little road trip. Part of the fun of a trip is introducing people to places you have been.

The weather during the trip was largely overcast and there was lots of rain. With a fair amount of travel we were able to catch up and get to know each other a little better. Making myself get out and do things was a boost to my confidence. Getting out of my car and putting gas in it is not the easiest but I can handle things at stops where I was scared to think about it before. My legs have been bothering me since I got back but I have only had to raid my painkillers once in the last few days.

You used to see these on the roads everywhere. The colour got tweaked to make it stand out more.

Elevator Friday - Sharples, Alberta

There are some on the internet that refer to Sharples as a ghost town. There never was a settlement here, just a lone elevator by train tracks that once ran through here to Carbon west of here and Drumheller east of here.

About a year ago I saw something posted about this elevator being scheduled to be demolished. I was unable to run out and see it then. The elevator is still standing and I am not sure how true that story is. In case it actually is going to be torn down I thought I would see it before it happens. I saw it within the last week. Not happy with the photos and the one good one I thought I would give it the colour and black and white treatment.

The last time I was at Prairie Circle Cemetery was in 2017. A few days ago I got a friend, Glen Bowe, to join me on a return trip. My prior visit was a short visit without a close look as there was a lot of tall grass and I did not want to step on and damage anything hidden in the grass. I thought a return visit at this time of year would be a great time as I would now be able to see everything. My plan partially worked. I did not expect snow on the ground. Since I am still on crutches I did not chance going down the ditch and attempting to check out the grounds. Asking my guest to pick me up if I fell might be too much of an imposition.

There is a hinged cover over a plaque showing there are at least twenty-eight burials here. There does not seem to be any past 1940. I could see a few more markers compared to my last visit but there are not many. The most common surname is Kary. There are references to Ensleigh, Fenner, and Zetland. The most I could find is that both areas might have had a post office or general store as those sometimes existed without anything else for miles around or was just an area name. Present day there is no evidence of either location. Glen was kind enough to allow me to use some of his photos.

Abandoned Lutheran Church

This is near Torrington, Alberta.

I am trying to get back in the swing of things by going to some places kind of close to where I live. I have been here twice before. The roof is relatively new so someone is trying to preserve it. I believe the church was built in 1906 and abandoned sometime in the 1950's.

I am dying to get out on a road trip for a few days. I cannot make it happen, I have not progressed enough that I feel comfortable trying it. I have managed to take a couple of unassisted steps, it is painful and almost torturous. On the plus side I know I can take a step without using anything for help. I aim to be doing some hiking next spring.

Truck on a Stump

On my way from one place to another I passed through Neilburg, Saskatchewan where I caught sight of this old truck.   

All that's left of Bob's Corner Gas & Cafe is the sign, an old gas pump and a truck on a stump.

Abandoned Alberta

I love abandoned structures with character. I was in the hospital and gave my friend Dale Redekopp the location of an old stone house in the Tofield, Alberta area as he was out on a day trip. I asked him to send me photos.

This was an actual house that a family occupied for years. I have been here before and the house is not very big. There was even an upstairs to this home.
