Jasper National Park February 4, 2023

Tried to capture a few different winter shots. One is off one side of a bridge, and the other side of the same bridge.

Quick wildlife post

Day trip to Jasper, Alberta yesterday. Lots of wildlife out.

Wish I could have got a video of the Bighorn Sheep that I witnessed head-butting an SUV that was parked on the shoulder earlier in the day.

I always have a difficult time trying to capture how green some of the lakes are here.

Mo knows Jasper

Jasper, Alberta is one of my favourite places. Every year I buy a year pass that gets you access to all of the national parks in Canada. Cpt Mo was in Jasper recently and really captured some great images.

Enjoy another Cpt Mo post.

Wildlife in Jasper National Park

Jasper, Alberta is about three and a half hours from where I live. I like to do a day trip there a few times through the year. Sometimes you get to see something interesting. This is only part of the herd, there was at least fifty of them spread out on both sides of the highway.

Somewhat back

Tired and needed a break.

Did not really feel like posting. This latest lockdown is depressing. We are working our way through six weeks of restrictions. The only plus is that with a number of businesses closed or restricted is that I am saving money simply because I cannot spend it. I do not shop online.

My turkey that I ordered and picked up on December 24th was fine. On Christmas Day I drove to my mother's place to drop off turkey with dressing, vegetables, and potatoes. At this date it does not look like I am getting my plastic containers back. I am not going to press the issue, I will just buy more. Mom either forgot or needs them more than I do.

I like to take a drive on New Year's Day. The world seems to be a bit quieter on that day and I think it is a good way to start the year. I drove from the Leduc area on Highway 16 to Jasper, then south on Highway 93, then east on Highway 11 to Nordegg, Rocky Mountain House, then at Red Deer onto Highway 2 home. This route was to get out into the mountains, stop and breathe the air, and enjoy the silence. Unfortunately the only wildlife I encountered was a fox and a very friendly crow at a roadside turnout. I expected more sun, some of the shots are a little bleak.

I would have loved to stay overnight in Jasper. With the latest rules all of the restaurants are closed, it is takeout only. I would rather spend more time when more is available and dine it. The lack of amenities will affect the frequency of posting.

Yes, the water is that shade of green.

Bridal Veil Falls and Panther Falls

Off Highway 93 south of Jasper, Alberta.

Bridal Veil Falls.

Panther Falls. This time I got as close as I wanted. Prior trips I could not get as close. I did not get to the base of the falls because I would have got soaked. I did get a bit below the falls.

Managed to catch a rainbow in the mist on this one.

A little video.

Stanley Falls September 5, 2020

South of Jasper, Alberta just off Highway 93. There is a small parking lot where Beauty Creek meets the Athabasca River. To get to the falls there is a trail that follows the creek. The trail is only 1.6km long but feels shorter. At about the halfway point the terrain goes transitions where the creek is in a deep chasm with sharp cliffs. It is an easy walk with nice scenery along the way.

The steep chasm opens up to where you get to see Stanley Falls. This has been on my list for a couple of years. You can walk down to the base of the falls.

Base of the falls.

Walk up from Stanley Falls and you can see more little waterfalls. There is a waterfall just below Stanley Falls. I could not get a photo of that one due to the steep rock walls.

Looking down to the valley. I made sure to get a drink. Well worth the trip.
