Yellow-Bellied Marmot

Lots of these running around the Checkmate Winery in Oliver, British Columbia. This one kind of stood guard and checked out my car as it was driven onto the grounds. They must have it good there as I seen some very chubby ones.

Cpt Mo Wednesday

Cpt Mo gets some interesting photos.

I have seen skunks many times, I have never managed to get a photo of one.

Years ago I lived in a three storey walk up apartment building in St. Albert, Alberta. A family of skunks made their home under the front sidewalk one year. You would come home from work and see kits playing on the lawn. To my knowledge no one got sprayed. Those were the days when I did not carry a camera with me. I would love to get some photos of some in the wild.

Owl spotting

Off to visit mom on Sunday. I was held up due to some kind of oil spill on Highway 39 near the intersection of Highway 20 east of Drayton Valley, Alberta. There were cleanup crews and the highway was reduced to one lane with flagmen at either end and multiple cleanup vehicles.

On the way back I took Highway 622. East of St. Francis I spotted this owl in the tree. I stopped on the highway and was lucky enough to run off multiple shots before it grew tired of me and flew off. I believe it is a Grey Owl. Taking a detour worked out well.

Porcupine sighting

Took a drive on Sunday in search of an old school. I spotted a porcupine high up in a tree. This was the best shot. My subject was not wanting to pose.

Quick wildlife post

Day trip to Jasper, Alberta yesterday. Lots of wildlife out.

Wish I could have got a video of the Bighorn Sheep that I witnessed head-butting an SUV that was parked on the shoulder earlier in the day.

Bears are out

Spotted this one along the highway east of Revelstoke, British Columbia last weekend. Unfortunately the bear would not cooperate and look in my direction for a better shot.

Encounters of the moose kind

Last Saturday I was on my way home from visiting mom. I thought I would take a detour and drop by the cemetery where a friend of mine resides. I spotted a moose about here: 53.211670, -114.632891

The moose was not very big and it was damn hard to get a photo because it was in the trees most of the time. After spending some time staring at me it decided to wander off. This was the best shot out of several attempts and I got it at the extreme range of my telephoto lens.

Incidentally I spotted a moose Friday, this one Saturday, and another on Sunday. I was only able to get a photo of this one.
