Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church North Slawa in Alberta May 20, 2017. Ukrainians from Bukovina in Western Ukraine settled this area. In 1906 ten acres were donated by a farmer for a cemetery. The original church was apparently built 1912-1915 out of logs.
During cemetery cleanup in 1940 the fire went out of control and the church was destroyed. In 1956 the Brierfield School building was purchased and moved here to be used as a church.
I ran across this by chance when taking a drive in the area. The church and cemetery are islands in a sea of plowed land. I am certain that the church is no longer used on a regular basis.
