This was a neat find. There are school markers all over Alberta where one room schoolhouses once stood. This one is north of Buffalo, Alberta in a remote area that does not get a lot of traffic. The school is long gone, all that remains is the steps and the foundation on the other side of the barb wire fence..
Wonder what happened - it only lasted 20 years.
ReplyDeleteA lot of them were consolidated into bigger areas so a lot of smaller schools were closed. I have not found much history on this particular one.
DeleteSad that rural schools have disappeared. I think I learned more in my three student class in the two room country school I attended than in the city schools with large classes. Here in Minnesota the rural schools look pretty much like your photos.
ReplyDeleteIt can be looked at from a historical standpoint obviously, but also..."the world is your oyster"..."go forth, and conquer"...of learning...wide open spaces..instead of today's strictly enforced curriculum. Interesting conceptually to me..and I do quite like the signage and steps...leading to the rest of the world. Nice!
ReplyDeleteInteresting interpretation.
