That's Saint John Lutheran Church. Love the weathered look and the tall red brick chimney. The cemetery is less than a mile northwest of town.Wanted to see this one on my last road trip but didn't get that far east on Highway #1...hopefully next time.
My "in the present" comment, without knowing the history of any of these churches, is this picture speaks to the general decline in churchgoing. Some still more lightly used, others a beacon of the past.
Nice one! The chimney doesn't look as though it 'fits' the overall decay though.
I live in oakshela and have a view of this church from my windows. I was told that it closed down in 1960, and has not been changed since then.
I would love to hear from you. I would really like to get a closer look at this church.
Just stopped to see how it was doing: local told us it has been bought. Worse shape now - all windows stolen, so boarded up.
