Ghost town Saskatchewan

From Dale and Lynn Redekopp

Expanse is a ghost town in Saskatchewan south of Old Wives Lake. Expanse thrived for a couple of years as the CPR end of track from 1912 to 1914, but was disorganized as a village in 1935 due to changing economic circumstances and the great depression. The St James Presbyterian church which was built in 1912 was converted to the St James United church in 1923. The church was moved to Mitchelton, Saskatchewan in 1958 and ceased to be active in 1986. The streets of Expanse have reverted back to nature. Pictures were taken in September 2014.

This is practically nothing left these days.

  1. Such a shame but I suppose it's good shelter for wildlife.

  2. That flat roof bldg looks like a school. And there is a plaque/monument just off the main road.

Bing would have us believe very little has changed from Dale's visit in 2014. Google Sat is lying thru it's teeth as to satellite image date, though.

    1. I was there in July 2020. I did not bother taking any photos because there is practically nothing left.

  3. The flat topped building was the school. I missed the plaque. We were running short on time or I would have had a peek into the school and old residence.

  4. This is now gone, torn down. The foundation is there but the structure has been removed
