Gravelbourg Catholic Church July 31, 2016

Gravebourg is not a big place. It does have a big church. I am a fan of church buildings. I have mixed feelings about ornate churches. I prefer plain simple churches. This is undoubtedly impressive. To me the more important thing is the congregation, not the glorification of the institution. Small simple rural churches mean more as they are more about the people they served. Just my view.

Located in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan.

This is the former Bishop's Residence which is beside the church. It is now a bed and breakfast.

  1. I once visited the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. The friend who was with me, a former resident of that area, remarked that he didn't think the Cathedral had much to do with God, but was more a monument to the Rev. Schuller who authorized its building. I have to say that I am more impressed with the small, rural churches, built by the folks who lived in the area. They were for worship - not for show.

  2. Found it! I agree with Vicki - smaller and more community orientated is a lot better than flashy nothings.

  3. I like the simple little churches but I have to say those are both handsome buildings... love that semi-circular porch!
