Trout Lake Cemetery

Located about here: 50.6523, -117.5436

The town of Trout Lake City, British Columbia sprang into existence in 1893 owing its existence to a mining boom in the area. In 1900 there were 1,000 people here. These days hardly anyone lives here.

The oldest burial here is in 1900. The cemetery is overgrown and gravesites and markers have deteriorated over time.

The metal signs says it is Trout Lake Cemetery.

A wooden marker in good condition. Possibly replaced sometime in the past.

"In loving memory of Walter Taylor
Died Jan 10th 1912
Aged 36 Years"

Badly deteriorated over time. Could not find a name on this one.

You have to look carefully to find markers and plots. There is a lot of growth.

  1. In one sense it's unfortunate that it is so neglected but on the other hand what a peaceful place.

  2. Cool discovery. Poor Annie (Beck) Strutt doesn't have a photo for her Find a Grave Marker. If you would like to contribute your image you can do so here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/170995344/annie-strutt

Mrs. W.A. Strutt, Annie Strutt nee Annie Beck
    23 May 1883 Sweden
    19 July 1909 Revelstoke. Age 26

    wife of William A. Strutt

Appendicitis and obstruction of the bowels, 1 week. Annie immigrated in 1899; the 1901 Census Calgary finds Annie Beck working as a domestic for Walter Blanchard, hotel keeper.

On the 9th of December 1902, at Calgary, she was married to William Ashby Strutt, "Billy" Strutt ( 26 Dec1872 Kensington England --- 30 August 1933 Vancouver, B.C.) he was a miner, prospector, rancher, later butcher, and was the Mining Recorder at Beaton 1913-1918, he replaced Benjamin Drew, and W.A. Strutt was himself replaced by Frances Imogene Fraser in 1918.

William Ashby Strutt and Annie Beck** had at least three children:

William Otto Strutt 12 March 1905 Beaton, B.C. - 18 May 1913 Revelstoke. whooping cough.

    Grant Orrin Strutt 29 June 1908 Beaton - 15 June 1964.

Mary Annie Strutt born April 1907 (1908) married on the 4th of January 1930 Los Angeles, to Roderick Evans

On 25 July 1910 W.A. Strutt married Florence Louise Taylor (Nov 1870-?) this relationship appears to have not lasted very long, since W.A. Strutt married 15 July 1912 Amelia Harriet Clegg (1878 Beaton -1961) they had at least one child: William Albert Strutt (1916-1990)

Strutt Peak is named after the family since W.A. Strutt had a long association with Beaton, and the area in general
