My friend was buried today. There are all kinds of things that get discussed over the years when you hang out with someone. I mentioned that there are certain songs that I would want played at my send off. I never got what he would have wanted, he never gave it much thought, and never came up with anything. I loved the guy like the brother I never had but I always thought he had a lousy taste in music (and movies).
My list evolves a bit over time. Here is what I have so far.
There are two by Billy Joe Shaver because I like Billy Joe Shaver. Besides, its my list.
If you want a hug from Neil Pearl when you enter, you better put him on your list too.
ReplyDelete"Time Stand Still" will be added.
DeleteThe best music I ever heard played at a funeral was Elvis' "Viva Las Vegas."
ReplyDeleteInteresting choice.
DeleteThe Doors, "This is the end, beautiful friend..."
ReplyDeleteI like this suggestion.
DeleteI've never given this any thought but I know any list of mine would absolutely have to include Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". And Mercy Me's 'I Can Only Imagine'
ReplyDeleteBilly Joe was a local here. Passed his bar/Honky tonk joint on the way to work and back every day. He has passed so we only have Ted Nugent now.
ReplyDeleteGreat songwriter. Have his songs in my music library.
