Hard to find a classic barn where you can get onto the property and get a decent photo. For this one I happen to know the owner. Unfortunately it started to rain when I was here.
I am looking forward to hopefully getting back into the swing of posting.
I wonder at the purpose of the 'pointy peak' on the roof. I know it sort of covers the loft entrance but I don't suppose it would offer much protection from the elements.
ReplyDeleteIt held a rope & pulley system to move bails of hay from the ground to the loft. All manual labor of course.
Deletebales - NOT bails
Deletegeez, hard to get good help

loose hay lifted with what was called a "sling"
ah - thank you! I knew it must have a purpose. I'm in Ontario and it's very rare to see a barn with this type of roof.
DeleteYou are welcome. Been a while since I have been to Ontario. Use to come up that way for business.
DeleteI don't imagine that they have done the first cutting of hay up your way yet..
ReplyDeleteActually, the clouds give the sky portion of your photo some really nice character.
