It is not "abandoned", just a change of use. This elevator has been in positive ownership for it's entire life and is currently owned by South Prairie Network. Unfortunately many explorers like to trespass and they break locks and take "mementos" other take photos.
Those are ALCO prime movers, formerly of tug boat service with plans to be used to repower several locomotives that are currently undergoing rebuild. They are there for storage.
I noticed those 2 big prime movers in the field, too. Look like V-12 railway units, but how they ended up on the grass, here, is a mystery. Not really shade tree mechanic stuff. Curious enough to look it up on G-maps. There's a quick paragraph on the origin of the village's name on Wikipedia. The property has changed since google drove past. The building has changed, and there's also a bunch of microwave stuff on the roof of the building now, so there's still some activity there. /DW
I love that you looked up this place. There is a bit of activity there. As for the engines I see some out of place stuff enough times that I never think about it.
Red Coat Rail bought this line from CP, so maybe that makes them the landlord here now. Maybe that big iron belongs to them. Willow is the last stop before the western terminus in Assiniboia. RCRR quotes freight rates from Willow.
RCRR is the rail owner, the elevator owner is South Prairie Network, Those prime movers (the engines) are privately owned but under the care of Saturday Locomotive Services.
All those elevators, doing their part (or already did their part) to feed the farming family and the world!
ReplyDelete"Willows" is the perfect Saskatchewan place name though.
ReplyDeleteAnother good example. Sad that it's abandoned though.

DeleteI took photos from the road. I am not a fan of those who take things from places like this.
DeleteWhat's up with those two huge Diesel engines sitting in the grass?
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
Wish I knew.
