On Eagle Butte Road southeast of Medicine Hat on April 9, 2016. It is a historic site open to the public and a very tiny church. I sort of had a problem with this visit. The place is beautiful and every place should be this well kept. My issue is that it looked too good. It looked like new old stuff. I think the restoration is too good.
Historical markers.
Some restorations of Victorian homes are like that - all modern inside. All the charm of the old details are gone, replaced by chrome and recessed lighting. I like the church bell, though. Did you ring it?
ReplyDeleteNo. I might go back and do that just for you. The inside is amazing. I could not get the flash to work otherwise I would have got some interior shots. The inside looks too "new" as well. I appreciate history being preserved though.
DeleteI enjoyed reading McArady's headstone.
DeleteThank you for your visit - the door is always open.
ReplyDeleteThe upgrades have been put in place to try to ensure the building survives into the future.
Built in 1908 without proper foundation or bracing and it was abandoned from 1968 until 1976 - many of those who helped restore church and cemetery now rest in the tree lined yard
