Feldman Lake School 1890

This is the second Feldman Lake School on the original location. Very few rural schools in Alberta were brick. I have never seen windows like this in a rural school. I have usually seen in even smaller schools more windows and taller windows. I could not get a closer look as this one is on private property.

Feldman Lake School is southwest of Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Foggy day south of Medicine Hat yesterday

Spotted in Orion, Alberta

Sunday morning

I had Friday off. I drove to Medicine Hat, Alberta to meet up with a friend. Saturday morning I found out my mother’s sister, otherwise known as my aunt, died early Saturday morning.

I spent some time in the Medicine Hat area with my friend and had a great visit. We met up for dinner later on. The photo expedition was a bit of a disappointment but the visit itself more than made up for it. After dinner I headed back home and cut my trip short so I could visit mom today. I got home just after midnight.

My father came from a family of six children. All of them have been gone for years. Mom came from a family of four children. Now there are two. As you get older you lose more people along the way.

She was my favourite aunt. She died at eighty-six ravaged by dementia knowing and not knowing who she was and who others were and no longer able to walk. May she rest in peace.

Is That What You Call A Tailfin?

A '56 Meteor with some modifications.

I'm sure Q from the James Bond movies would know what this was all about.

Spotted about a month ago near Saint Claude, Manitoba.

It says Fidelity on the sign. Fidelity is a locality in Alberta. Two miles east is Fidelity School which was a former one room schoolhouse.

Late night black and white

I believe this is Arkona School near Coronation, Alberta built in 1907. The school is in bad shape and obscured by trees.

Old Ford post

Spotted near Spruceview, Alberta

Someone has attempted to rename Highway 54 in Alberta. They should know that sasquatch are not native to Alberta. There are however a native species in British Columbia.

Abandoned Alberta

Former one room school in rural Alberta. I had been here once before in the dead of winter. Looks like it might have been a granary at one time.

Random barn

New Denver, British Columbia.

Return to the quarry

I was here a week ago. I have been here twice in the past. Once I found out where it was I make a point of stopping here if I am in the area.

This is an abandoned quarry very close to Marblehead, British Columbia.

I am not a fan of the graffiti. There are a few interesting things here. I think someone carved some Latin into the rock. There is a Masonic symbol as well. Both can be seen in the photos.

The way back

I took my time on the way home on my recent trip. Usually I get up early and drive straight to a destination or straight home. This time I did a change of pace to stop at a few places I passed by in the past.

One of these places was Peyto Lake in Banff National Park. It is a little bit of a walk from the parking lot to the viewpoint and it is worth it.

No bears sighted

A short trip was taken to the West Kootenay area of British Columbia recently. Last Friday I drove from Kaslo to Gerrard and back. Kokanee salmon, an entirely freshwater fish, spawn at this time of year. You can see them in many places in the Lardeau River along the route I drove.

My thoughts were that with fish spawning there should be a very good chance of spotting bears. In Kaslo there are signs up warning you of bears in the area.

It was a slow drive up and down the valley. I did not spot a single bear. Back in Kaslo I stopped at the Kaslo Hotel since they carry a variety of local craft beer and that is a good consolation prize. I highly recommend stopping here, the beer is damn good. I mentioned to the woman who served me that I was on the lookout for bears. She mentioned that one was sleeping in her driveway the last two nights.

On the plus side, there was beer and the food was good.
