A reader of this blog sent me the location of the remains of a round barn in Alberta. This is unique and rare. He also sent a photo showing what the barn used to look like.
This is what remains of the barn. Unless you know exactly where it is you would likely not find it.
The walls are about ten feet high and it is fifty-eight feet in diameter. It was designed for a team to drive up a ramp and turn inside and unload hay.
What a shame they couldn't maintain it.
ReplyDeleteThat is incredible. I had never heard or seen anything like it. I wonder if there are or were others.
ReplyDeleteThat was a Very Cool Barn, too bad it's gone. That foundation would make a great place to put a garden though. Hang a couple of doors, pile up the rocks on the section that's missing, and the bunnies would have to do some work to get in. A greenhouse, gazebo or fountain on the center concrete pad...
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better.
The round barns were not as popular but ideal for dairy farmers to get the cows fed and watered and ready for milking. I still prefer "regular" shaped barns as that is what my brain thinks is a barn.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty!
