Bee shelters

Those little triangular "tents" you see near some of the bright yellow fields of Canola or alfalfa crops could be thought of as ten camping for bees - hard working bees that is. The tents, or shelters, provide ideal habitat for leafcutter bees that in turn work very hard pollinating female canola flowers to produce hybrid seed. There are other forms of these shelters described as blue domes and box-like structures.

Found another one

On April 10, 2023 I posted a 1949 Ford F135. I stumbled across another one in Tomahawk, Alberta. I picked up mom for a drive and we drove through Tomahawk where she grew up. I happened to spot this beside the old hotel.

Many years ago my grandfather owned and operated a garage and sold gas here. It was called C.W. Schoepp and Sons. My uncle worked as a mechanic there. Not a trace of it remains, a new gas station stands on the same spot.

Side quests

Whenever I am in a small town I keep an eye out for the post office. For some reason I like to find small fully functioning post offices. I also stop to check out bulletin boards if I see one, I like to see what is posted. We all have our quirks, I know a guy who is obsessed with Boler trailers and when he spots them in the wild he takes a photo.

This post office is in Crawford Bay, British Columbia. Apparently the smallest post office in western Canada is in Metiskow, Alberta but I think this one comes close.

 

Another random text post

Posting has taken a bit of a hit. Having one of those weeks at work where a few minor routine transactions have somehow turned into problems. Some days everything glides by, other days work fights you at every turn. There are days when you are exhausted trying to fix things that might not have a solution.

There are other issues such as trying to sell mom's condo. There is some recent interest so I remain hopeful. Did some recent shopping for mom, paid her property taxes, and some other bills of hers. There are other miscellaneous tasks and chores taking up my time, mom-related and personal. Any time I take off is in bits and pieces.

This too shall pass.
