St. Margaret's Church, Eagle Butte Road, Alberta

St. Margaret's Church was built in 1908 and was restored in the 1990's. It was built as an Anglican Church. I met Michael Truman (who contributes posts to this blog) through a post I did on this place a few years ago. In my initial post I saw this place at dusk and I was in a hurry. I did not spend much time here as I was losing daylight. I remarked that I thought the restoration job made the place too new. It was not a criticism, just an offhand comment.

Michael Truman contacted me and gave me some background on this place. Michael has devoted a lot of hours volunteering his time making this place look as good as it does. Through him I got a great appreciation of what it took to restore this historical spot on the prairie. It is a beautiful spot and it looks perfect. To fully appreciate it you have to see it in person. I would like to thank Michael Truman for being a tour guide on September 1, 2018.

I had to add a sunflower that is at St. Margaret's. Fall is coming and I have hardly seen any sunflowers this year. So I should have at least one post with a sunflower.

To close out the weekend . . .

I posted this once before. I like it enough to post it again.

School signs

Someone in the Special Areas in Alberta has put up some homemade historical markers. The Special Areas in Alberta are sparsely populated areas. Whoever put up these signs marked some unique local history. I have found this style marking where a sod church once stood. These I ran across yesterday. The first one marks where a one room school once stood.

This one marks where a private one room school once stood. This is unique and an interesting bit of history to mark. I wish there was more about this place.
