Quick take: Dinton Anglican Church October 23, 2016

I have taken a photo of this spot before in the past and posted it. You can see it via Google Street View. It is south and east of Calgary on Highway 547 where it intersects with Range Road 264. The claim to fame of this spot is that it is in a scene in the movie "Brokeback Mountain", which I have also mentioned before. It is a nice little church that still has a service once a month.

During the lunch hour today

It is currently 15C and I feel like I have been run over with this cold that I picked up from someone. The bike got new tires a week ago which set me back close to five hundred dollars. It has sat since then as I have been too sick to ride it. I am too sick to ride it today but it it too hard to resist. I took a quick zip partway up Highway 772 just west of Airdrie. I will pay for this later with more chills and sweating from this cold. For a few minutes it felt good to be alive and on the road and enjoy the sun.

You do not really realize how big these things are until you drive up to one. I have stated before I really do not like these things. I am a firm believer that they are a blight on the landscape. I also think millions have been wasted on them with no clear benefit. No matter, it is only my opinion and I do not make these decisions.

Cityscape October 22, 2016

At some point Calgary got too big. You used to be able to zip around the city quickly and easily. The highway shown is Deerfoot Trail. During rush hour it is almost a parking lot. These days you cannot get there from here, it takes too long. You used to be able to park. Now it seems you circle until you pounce on an open space and you have to pay dearly for it. Computer meters are all over. I had a few favourite places I liked to wander through in Calgary. Not any more as it is no longer enjoyable. What was once fun is now a chore.

The tree post

I like running across lonely trees out on the prairie. To me it kind of says something about parts of nature beating the odds,surviving, even thriving when you see a tree in the middle of nowhere. 

This time of year things are stark and the prairie looks like rust. In southern Alberta winter will alternately appear and recede with the Chinook winds. October has passed into November and snow will eventually appear.
