Music to drive by

Road trips require music and a road trip is more than a few hours of driving in one direction. There is nothing on the radio I like anymore which I why I have my own essential listening.

Willie Nelson is a great songwriter but he cannot sing. Give him the right material and somehow it works. What I find odd about him is that he works much better as a duet. His excesses seem to be kept in check whenever he is working with someone.

All of Me
Blue Skies
Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain
Stardust
Let it Be Me
City of New Orleans
Pancho and Lefty (with Haggard)

Haggard was a favourite of my father. Some tracks never get old.

Silver Wings
White Line Fever
Sing Me Back Home
Big City
All the Soft Places to Fall (with Nelson)

Of course there is Waylon

Old Five and Dimers (Like Me)
May I Borrow Some Sugar From You
The Wurlitzer Prize (I Don't Want to Get Over You)
A Couple More Years
Honky Tonk Heroes (Like Me)

I tend to like my music a little ragged around the edges and on the redneck side. It seems more authentic that way.
