Holding on to sanity

No televisions in this hospital. A few visitors dropped off magazines. I have some nature, hunting, and photography magazines.

Thank God for the technology of the day and age. Hospital wifi is not great but it is adequate. I managed to download an app on my iPad so I can watch hockey games. I have downloaded some television series. So far I have watched:

Justified

Southland

Better Off Ted

Burn Notice

Resident Alien

This has definitely helped pass the time. Especially at night since I have a roommate who talks in her sleep and snores like she is in some competition and is out to win. Some nights I do not drop off until midnight.

  1. What is the difference between the cast and the splint, BW? Why would they go that way? I’ve never seen a lace up splint before…

  2. I hope you're enjoying the Oilers/Flames game that's on right now!

  3. Welcome to roommates. I had one who would get so sloshed on Friday or Saturday night that his buddies would haul him up the stairs and deposit him on his bed. I would check to see that he was face down, put the trash can by his head and open the window.

You may want to watch some of the 60s Cold War movies such as One, Two, Three with James Cagney or Casino Royalle with Peter Sellers (1967) or a World War II movie The Scarlet and the Black with Gregory Peck. Or any of the end of the world movies like Our Man Flint. They are a bit longer than just TV shows and help pass the time.

At any rate, God bless you as you heal.

  5. I thought TVs in every room were standard by now. At least here in the US it seems to be. Then again I've not spent much time in them. The hospital I was in was 1 patient per room. Maybe 1 TV and 2 patients leads to fights...I mean discussions... about if the TV should be on, what to watch, and the volume. The nurses have more than enough to deal with without adding referee to the list. I'm glad you got the iPad set up.
I bet it feels good to have the cast off your arm! At least the splint can be removed so your arm can be washed and aired out.

  6. I suggest Deadwood and American Gods. Also, don't bother with the second justified series, better off deciphering your roommates mumbling.

  7. Gotta love a roomie that both snores AND talks in her sleep. I am not comfortable with the idea of putting men and women in the same room either - seems wrong somehow. I'm glad you have an iPad and can download something to watch. I don't know if you're a reader but if you are, perhaps getting someone to get you a Kindle might be of value.
