Truck update

Not that long ago I bought a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4WD. So far I have changed the oil and put in a new windshield. The locking box cover has some locking issues that cannot be fixed so that will be scrapped. A new replacement is about one thousand dollars so that will not be happening unless I can find a used one. One of those velcro type covers is five hundred. That may happen although I doubt it. There are a few quick inexpensive fixes that I still have to make.

A friend of mine showed me that the rear window is a power window that raises and lowers with the turn of a knob. I like it however I have mixed feelings about that feature. For fun I wanted to put a gun rack in the back window. Now I cannot do it as it will interfere with using the window.

I am not sure I will keep the truck past this fall. I currently have a car, truck, and motorcycle. Having the truck is fun but it is cutting into my motorcycle time and I am not getting as much use out of it as I thought I would. Everything I have I use fairly frequently. Owning something and not getting much use of it bothers me. Fall is still three months away so I will see what transpires.

  1. In my world, I would dump the car and keep the truck since they are a lot more versatile. Can the truck haul the motorcycle if needed?

    1. No. The box is not long enough. In the past I have sold a bike at the end of the season and bought one at the beginning of the next season.

  3. Have you talked to a locksmith about the lock box problem? A thousand dollars is a lot of money....

It helps me to remember "why" I bought something in the first place when I get into the too much stuff position.

For the 13 years I lived in the upper mid-west (real winters) I had a 4wd vehicle the whole time. I thought it helped...

    1. I bought it because I wanted it. I live a reasonably frugal lifestyle and thought I should be able to buy something I want. The locksmith idea is a good one. I will check.

  4. Oh dear. Sorry to hear about the gun rack fiasco. I hope its absence won't cause people to start mistaking you for a liberal.

    1. I fully admit to being Conservative / Libertarian. I have friends that all over the political spectrum. I do not push my views on anyone on this page simply because that is not the purpose of this space. What views I do state are usually an attempt at humour. On some things I am Liberal. I am more than willing, and have had, rational discussions with those who hold differing views as we all should.

I read your blog and I suspect we would disagree on some issues. That being said, I read many different political views and many different blogs to see what people are saying and to be entertained.

    2. Oh, I'm sure we'd disagree on many things, LOL, but as you note, that's not the point, is it! I enjoy your blog and photos and learn new things about Alberta and the prairies from your excursions. We're both old enough to have open minds, I suspect!

    3. Of course we are. I have a friend who is a dedicated Socialist. It grates on my nerves. We have always had rational political discussions. Neither of us will change the other's mind.

  5. I'm with Barney on this one.

The gun rack may be a prerequisite for a truck travelling in Montana. Better check...lol!
