Signs of moose

I see these all over Alberta. I have not seen any moose.

Shaftesbury Ferry August 1, 2015

Highway 740 takes you there and the ferry takes you across the Peace River. The first ferry crossing here was built by a farmer in 1951 and the family operated it until the government took it over in 1977.

The road heading into the valley suffered a slide at one point. The detour is just to the side.

I was a little hesitant. The dock was slightly chewed up and a little uneven to get onto the ferry. If I was driving a car I would not care. It is a little different on a motorcycle for highway use.

This is not a cable ferry. The ferry is manoeuvred by a tugboat. The tug and barge were built in 1962.

Off in the bushes. Personally I am not sure if I would want to drive across the ice in winter.

Shaftesbury, Alberta August 1, 2015

Marker by the highway to show where a mission and post office once stood. Unmarked graves are behind the signs. In the background is farmland. You can see the outline of a foundation behind the fence.

Chedderville Anglican Church

Just north of Caroline, Alberta on Highway 22 on July 31, 2015. I think it might still be used. I could not get access to the inside. A peek through the windows shows a very simple plainly designed church. No idea how old it is. There is a small cemetary in the back.
