Abandoned house January 28, 2017

Saw this sitting out in a muddy farm field south of Rosalind, Alberta. Someone tagged it with a bit of graffiti on the front. It must have been quite the house back in the day. I am curious how long it has been abandoned and how it became this way. The house looks very sturdy and has held up well.

  1. I'm always impressed at how well these houses have stood up to the elements... I'm sure in its day this was quite an impressive sight.

  2. Great old house! That it is still standing solidly is a testament to the quality of workmanship in years past.

  3. I must be the only person who hasn't photographed that house! It seems to be a popular one. And rightfully so, it's photogenic.

  5. Wonderful old home photos, really like the first and last ones.
Is there no recorders office or historical group to ask about?

    1. The more I look at it the more it reminds me of a Jean Jack painting. Love those old places...

    2. I think this is that beautiful old home on Hwy 854, three sections south of Rosalind. If I read the Township map correctly the section is: SE S8 T44 R17 = That coincides with the Huntsley family on the 1906/11 cenususes.. they seem to have lived there. Charles and Marie "Mary" Huntsley were born in the USA in 1874-1876 came to Alberta in 1901... They had a couple of kids in the States, then the rest in Canada. One of them Lee (1904-1978), was born in Bawlf, about 15 minutes north of Rosalind. He was a retired farmer. One of their sons lived in Prince George. I'm a bit "sketchy" when it comes to reading Section Township and Range maps... The Huntsley's are on the 1906 and 1911 census at Section 8 Township 44 Range 17. The 8 was a bit fuzzy, almost like a 6... so I checked and couldn't find anyone on section 6. Would be nice to find out more...

    5. It is definitely on Highway 854 due south of Rosalind, Alberta. I "found" it via Google Streetview and it was added to my list of places to see.

    6. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. I've always known this as the Enright House. The actual location is NE-6-44-17 W4, which according to the Camrose County Base Map (shows land ownership, road network and much more!)
https://camrosecounty.civicweb.net/document/1323 the land owner is the Hutterian Brethren Church of Donalda. That's not to say the land may have been owned by the Enright's previously. All said and done, it's a beautiful old homestead, and hopefully will be around for many years to come. Sadly, the barn that was behind the house is now gone.

  7. Charles Edson Huntsley homesteaded on the NE quarter. In 1918 James Enright bought the land from Huntsley. As to which one built the house, I don't know. However both names are associated with the land.
