Unsuccessful road trip

Drove to Robb, Alberta on February 6, 2016 which is south of Edson, Alberta. There used to be a lot of coal mines in this area. The last time I was in Robb my age was in the single digits. I was not missing anything.

The hotel was closed. Well, open from 10:30am to 1:30pm and 4:00pm to 9:00pm if I remember correctly. I arrived between openings. It was also up for sale. The gas station and general store a block away was boarded up and up for sale. Nothing of note that I could find in Robb.

Next time I will head further south to Cadomin and see what I can find there.

The Coal Branch Cemetery is a nice spot and it is just outside Robb. The snow is about knee deep.

  1. I hope the coal carts weren't used to carry the newly deceased beyond those gates.

  2. I don't know why I have been dropped from blogs I follow but I am trying to get it squared away. I have had to rejoin like 15 blogs I disappeared from. Don't take it personally, I'm back.

  3. That is the saddest, most forlorn cemetery in the area. I used to hunt out that way all the time and always stopped to pay my respects to the friendly old ghosts.

It contrasts mightily with the town. That place has bad karma and leaves me with impressions of hillbillies, unabombers, poachers and other turdies. Suppose I shouldn't talk like that...

  4. My parents met in that Hotel. My dad was the paymaster at the Bryan mountain mine.
